Artist Spotlight-King Dorius

  1. How have you grown as a musician? A long way… I’ve come from being a trumpet player in my elementary school band to singing in the church choir to writing, producing and recording my own music. It’s definitely been a process and is still ongoing
  2. What inspired you to become a producer & artist? Music is in my DNA.  My father was a musician and in a way, I feel as if I’m carrying out a vision he had or heritage that he passed on. Music is something that I’ve just always had a passion for.
  3. What is the message you want to convey through your music? It really just depends on the song, the mood I’m or whatever the Creator gives me to create, you know? It could be about love, heartbreak, spiritual freedom or a specific story or experience that I want to share with the world.
  4. What music inspires you as an artist? All music inspires me to a degree. I love R&B cause I love to sing. Hip-Hop for sure – that’s the core for me. And Gospel too,  that’s the soul, that’s another level.
  5. What is your musical style? It’s versatile if anything. The best way to define it would be to listen to it for yourself.
  6. What genre do you fit into, if any? I’m definitely a Hip-Hop artist but I got a lot of R&B and gospel in there too. A little splash of rock n roll with it… I’m not sure there’s a name or one genre for that. I’m pretty eclectic – I just love making good music whatever it is.
  7. What is your process for creating a beat? I’m a sampler most of the time to be honest. I’ll usually find a piece or clip of music that I like and loop it or chop it into an instrument itself and then add my own instrumentation around it – drums and keys – whatever fits. Other times I just end up programming my own drum pattern or playing a chord or some melody that I feel and then building around that. Sometimes also, artist have sent me a sample or idea that they have and then I put it together.
  8. What can we expect next from King Dorius? LTS MIXTAPE COMING REAL SOON!!! I got plenty of individual tracks with different artists coming out too. I got a project I been cooking and marinating for a while called “King of My World” that I’m gonna finish.
  9. What is your motivation for creating music? My biggest motivation is just documenting life and making a soundtrack of memories and moments that people can feel and be inspired by before and after I’m gone…
